You will own everything and be happy!

You may have heard this ominous prediction lately:‘You will own nothing and be happy.’ Well, that is one possibility I suppose. Equally possible is: ‘You will own nothing and be miserable!’ which is a far more likely outcome! But, among the various degrees of the former, there is yet another extreme possibility which I would like to bring to your attention: You will own everything and be happy... unspeakably happy!

Too good to be true you say... and also impossible. If I owned everything, wouldn’t everyone else own nothing? Well, I assure you, it is not too good to be true and it is absolutely possible. Would you like to know how? The short answer is: If you have Jesus Christ, you have everything and will forever rejoice.

“For by him (Jesus Christ) all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.” (Colossians 1:16)

Jesus Christ himself says, “The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.”(John 17:22-23)

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7)

You see, if you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, you are united to him with all believers, and are an heir of God with him… All believers are heirs of God who holds the whole creation in his hand, and so, they really do own everything in that sense.

And “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved,” (Romans 10:9) and be united to Jesus Christ with all other believers.

And so, if you would own everything and be eternally happy, learn about Jesus Christ in God’s word, the Bible. There is infinitely good news in it for anyone who will read it with faith.

But, there is another side which must be considered. Earlier I said that ‘You will own nothing and be miserable’ is a far more likely outcome. Sadly, it is not only far more likely, it is certain. For whom is it certain? The short answer is: For anyone who does not have Jesus Christ. For without Jesus Christ it is impossible to approach God “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

“Whoever has the Son (Jesus Christ) has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” (1 John 5:12)

“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” (John 3:36)

And so the big question is: Do you, or do you not have Jesus Christ? If so, You will own everything and be happy. If not, You will certainly own nothing and be eternally miserable

God graciously encourages you to make the right choice: “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)
